Born in Lima Ohio in 1923, Callahan graduated from the US Naval Academy, served as a submariner on the USS Grouper, USS Volador, USS Sterlet, and USSK 1. After graduating from MIT he joined Admiral Rickover's staff and had a role in the development of nuclear submarines. In 1958 he resigned from the Navy and applied his skills and knowledge to a corporate career with
